German Ambassador meets with CCCI Board of Directors

 H.E. Dr. Albrecht Conze, German Ambassador to Bangladesh met the Board of Directors of the Chittagong Chamber of Commerce & Industry on 23rd September, 2013 to exchange views on enhancing bilateral tie. CCCI President Incharge Mr. Syed Jamal Ahmed, Directors Mr. Mazharul Islam Chowdhury, Mr. Mahfuzul Hoque Shah, Mr. Jahirul Islam Chowdhury (Alamgir), Mr. Md. Ahid Siraj Chowdhury(Swapan), Mr. Md. Jahurul Alam, Alhaj Md. Serajul Islam, Mr. Md. Jahangir, Mr. Belal Ahmed, Mr. Mahfuzur Rahman  and Mr. Shakir Ispahani, Honorary Consul of the Federal Republic of Germany were present on the occasion.

 

H.E. Dr. Albrecht Conze said that power, energy, land and infrastructural development including political stability and congenial atmosphere are key to drawing foreign investment. The Ambassador apprised that a high powered German Business Delegation would visit Bangladesh in February-March, 2014 to witness and review the possibility or scope of investment in potential sectors. His Excellency opined that Shipbuilding and Pharmaceuticals are booming sector of Bangladesh and felt that completion of Dhaka-Chittagong highway in 4 line as well as double tracked railway linkage between Chittagong & Dhaka including construction of deep seaport at Chittagong will lift up the economy of Bangladesh to a very sound footing.

 

The President Incharge Syed Jamal Ahmed mentioned that Germany is our key development partner but its investment to Bangladesh is not upto the expected level. Providing statistics of trade gap between the two countries, he requested the Ambassador to invest in our booming sector like energy, infrastructure, leather, composite textile, shipbuilding, tourism and sought His Excellency’s personal initiative to this regard. The President Incharge also requested to ease visa issuance process for business people involved in trade link with Germany including granting of more scholarships for Bangladeshi students to ensure skilled manpower to lift-up our technology, overseas employment as well as skillness.

 

Chamber Director Mr. Mahfuzul Hoque Shah sought German investment to our Pharmaceutical and leather sector, Mr. Jahirul Islam Chowdhury (Alamgir) urged assistance in sports, Alhaj Md. Serajul Islam requested His Excellency to apprise the CCCI about sectors to be represented by members of the proposed German business delegation for effective match making including expected investment flow to potential sectors. Mr. Belal Ahmed urged the Ambassador to setup German Automobile industry in Chittagong. Mr. Shakir Ispahani, Honorary Consul of the Federal Republic of Germany also spoke on the occasion.
